Auto repair, Good setup

Your writer getsthe phone back.

Your service writer stops juggling the phone. Calls the counter can't pick up get a text with a link to book a diagnostic. Customers hear from you when the car is checked in, waiting on parts and ready to pay for, so fewer of them call to ask. We set it up and run it, month to month.

Built for 1 to 3 bay shops. From $997 setup + $297/mo, exact quote on the call. Need a website too? See the website plans.

    When the counter is busy

A missed call gets a text before they dial the next shop.

The phone rings while your writer is checking someone in. Nobody picks up. Within a minute the caller gets a text from your shop number with a link to book a diagnostic.

    1. RingYour line rings like it does now.

Someone at the counter can still grab it. Nothing changes until a call goes unanswered.

    2. TextThe caller gets a text with a booking link.

It asks what the car is doing. It never names a repair price, because nobody has seen the car yet.

    3. ReplyReplies land with your writer.

Your writer sees the reply and answers when the counter clears. The booking shows up on your schedule.

What shop owners say about the phone.

Close paraphrases from public owner forums. These are other shops talking, not our clients.

      • "As soon as a customer walks in, the phone rings."
autoshopowner.com forumMissed calls get the booking text.
      • "They call within the hour: 'You'll have it done today, right?'"
autoshopowner.com forumThe status text answers it first.
      • "One customer checking in, one checking out, and the phone won't stop."
        autoshopowner.com forum
      • "A phone quote almost never brings the car in."
r/MechanicAdviceSo the text books a diagnostic and quotes nothing.
      • "I tell everyone: if you don't hear from us, that's good news."

      • "I'd hate to hire a phone person and then let them go."
autoshopowner.com forumNo hire to make, and you can stop after 3 months.
      • "Maybe 1 in 20 actually leaves one."

      What's in it.

Five pieces. We set them up on your shop number and keep them running.

      Your writer's part

One tap per car when it changes stage: checked in, waiting on parts, ready. If your shop system can pass the status along on its own, we connect it and the taps go away. We check that on the audit.

Already on Tekmetric, Shopmonkey or Mitchell?

Keep it. Some of these already send texts that nobody switched on. On the audit we look at what yours does and set up only the gaps.

      • Missed calls texted back. When nobody picks up, the caller gets a text within a minute: what's the car doing, and a link to book a diagnostic. It never quotes a repair price. Replies go to your writer.
      • Status texts at three points.Checked in, waiting on parts, ready. The ready text has a link to pay before they walk in. Texts go to customers who said texts are fine at drop-off, and anyone can reply STOP.
      • A review ask on every paid repair order.A short "How did we do?" text first. Good answer, the review link goes right out. Not good, it goes to the owner to make it right, then they get the same link. One reminder, then it stops. No gifts for reviews.
      • An alert when a bad review posts.A 1 to 3 star review texts you right away. Call the customer if you want to. It doesn't hide or block anything.
      • A monthly report.Missed calls texted back, diagnostics booked from those texts, status texts sent, review asks sent and reviews in. Plus the carrier paperwork for business texting, which we file for you.

      Put in your shop's numbers.

Two things this setup can change: counter time spent on "is it ready?" calls, and missed callers who book a diagnostic instead of calling the next shop.

      Try a sample example

      Counter time

Calls asking about a car that's already in the shop.
Including the walk to the bay to ask the tech.
Your guess. Some people call anyway.

      Missed calls

Your phone bill or phone app usually shows this.
Your guess. Many missed calls are vendors or repeat callers.
Diagnostic plus whatever repair they approve.
Example gross profit a month from booked diagnostics

      $0

      • Extra diagnostics a month 0
      • Extra sales a month $0
      • Counter hours back a month 0
      • That's about 0 workdays

How we count it on your report. A diagnostic counts only if it was booked from one of our missed-call texts. Counter hours are your estimate: nobody can count the calls that didn't happen, so the report shows status texts sent and you judge the phone.

Start here, step up when the numbers say so.

Phones Off the Counter is the first step for auto repair. The next two add declined-work follow-up, after-hours booking, a maintenance club and fleets.

      The terms, in plain words.

Same terms on every setup. They go into the written agreement.

      • 3 months, then month to month. No auto-renew term. After the first three months, cancel by text and it runs to the end of the month you've paid for, then stops.
      • Setup fee half at signing, half at go-live.You pay the second half when the live test passes.
      • You leave with everything.Your number, contacts, consent records, reviews and domain go with you. We file the port-out the next business day and send your CSV within 5 days. No fee from us.
      • Live about a week after text approval.Phone carriers approve business texting first, and they set that timing. Once they do, we're usually live about a week later.
      • At least 10 missed calls texted back in your first 60 days live, or your next month is free.Every call nobody picked up that got a text within the minute. The monthly report shows the count.
      • Price changes come with 60 days written notice. One flat number on one Stripe line. Usage is included up to the cap on your Service Order. If a price ever changes, you get 60 days in writing and you can leave on that date.
      • If you'd rather pay a year up front, it's 10 months' price.Your call, not a pitch. Ask for it and it goes on the Service Order.
      • Need it faster? Rush build is +50% on the setup.Same build, moved to the front of the line.
      • Texts only go to people who asked.Customers who called you, dropped off a car or opted in. Past customers get email unless they said texts are fine. No cold texting and no AI calls out.
      • Starts at the from-price on the card.Your exact number comes from the free audit. You'll know the setup fee and the monthly before anything starts.

      Fair questions.

Ask us anything else by text.

Will it give prices over text?

No. The missed-call text asks what the car is doing and links to book a diagnostic. Repair prices come from your writer after the car has been looked at, the same as now.

Is a robot answering our phone?

Not in this setup. Your phone rings like it does now, and only calls nobody picks up get a text. An after-hours AI that books diagnostics is part of Declined Work Comes Back. That one sounds natural right away and tells callers the call may be recorded or transcribed.

      How does the status change?

Your writer taps the stage on a simple board, one tap per car per stage. If your shop system can send status on its own, we connect it instead. We check which one you'd get on the audit, before you pay for anything.

      Who gets the texts?

People who called your shop, and customers who said texts are fine when they dropped the car off. Anyone can reply STOP. We don't text lists of past customers and we don't cold text.

What happens with a bad review?

You get a text alert, and whether to call them is up to you. Every customer gets asked "How did we do?" first. A good answer gets the review link right away. If not, we ask what went wrong and send it to you to make it right, and after the fix, or a few days later, they get the same link. We don't offer anything for a review.

We already pay for Tekmetric. Why add this?

Keep it. Some shop systems can already send status texts or review asks, and plenty of shops never turned them on. We look at what yours does on the audit, switch on or set up only what's missing, and run the rest.

      What does it cost?

It's quoted because I put together the best setup for each business, based on its size and what it actually needs. I price it after the free audit, based on your calls, your bays and what you already pay for. You'll see the setup fee and the monthly before anything starts. Website plans are listed on the main site.

How many calls hit your counter today?

Text Chase a rough number. We'll run the free audit with you and tell you if this setup fits your shop, or if it doesn't.
